Highway 11/17 Expansion from West of Stillwater Creek to East of First Street Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment Study
Class Environment Assessment Process
The study is being conducted in accordance with the planning and design process for a Group A project under the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities and Municipal Expressways (2024).
Engagement will take place throughout the study with external agencies, Indigenous communities, property owners, businesses, stakeholders, and the public. The project team will host a Public Information Centre (PIC) to share information and discuss the project. Information about the date, time, and location of the PIC will be posted on the project website, published in the Nipigon-Red Rock Gazette and The Chronicle Journal, and shared with those on the project mailing list. PIC displays will also be posted on the project website with an online comment form.
At the conclusion of the study, the project team will prepare a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) that will summarize the study process, existing conditions, alternatives considered, the recommended plan and proposed mitigation measures.
The report will be made available for public review and comment for a period of 30 days. Notice of the review period will be posted on the project website, published in the Nipigon-Red Rock Gazette and The Chronicle Journal and provided to those on the project mailing list. Next steps following the completion of the preliminary design and environmental assessment will depend on project approvals and funding.
Currently, expansion improvements of this portion of Highway 11/17 is not included in the 2026-2029 Northern Highway Program (e.g. not funded).
